Hafod-Morfa Copperworks (the Copper Quarter)
In the 1800s Swansea was the world's leading copper smelting centre, handling 90% of the UK's output, which earned it the nickname "Copperopolis". The Hafod-Morfa Copperworks, on the river opposite Kilvey Hill, was one of the biggest industrial sites in Europe. Swansea Council is restoring the remaining buildings (Swansea Council).
The Musgrave and Vivian engine houses are normally kept closed, but the volunteer group Friends of Hafod Morfa Copperworks sometimes runs tours and open days (Swansea Council). Future dates: to be confirmed. The Skyline gondola base station is being built next to this site.

Swansea Bay and the promenade
The main sweep of Swansea Bay is about 8 km long, and Swansea Beach is the longest of the county's 19 main beaches. The council says the bay's tidal range of 10.4m is the second highest in the world, so a huge stretch of shore appears at low tide. The promenade is flat and surfaced, and open to cyclists all the way. In summer the Swansea Bay Rider land train runs between Mumbles and Blackpill (Swansea Council).
